An experienced engineer, visionary, and manager with a track record of leading multi-functional engineering teams and optimizing process efficiency while being passionate about the innovative technologies in the mission-critical industry that leads to impact.
John Ellis is a business and technology leader specializing in data center operations and mission-critical facilities. He is an accomplished data center engineering manager, project manager, and strategic business leader.
Having managed 12 data center and technology center facilities in 5 countries, totaling over 2 million sqft and 170 MW power capacity, he is well-versed in current industry best practices and developing innovative approaches to operations management to streamline production to maximize business profitability.
John started his career as a nuclear reactor operator in the US Navy, working with some of the world's most critical hardware in some of the most stressful environments. Following his time with the Navy, his growing knowledge base and academic aspirations led him to seek a career in the data center industry. Joining Schneider Electric in 2014, John quickly demonstrated his project and personnel management prowess. Managing critical power infrastructure construction projects at dozens of new data center facilities, John made a name for himself among site leadership teams as a quick-thinking and resourceful engineer, capable of resolving any issue to ensure the project remained on budget and on schedule. After delivering comprehensive construction projects for data centers to Digital Realty, John joined their ranks in data center engineering operations. While working with Digital Realty, he was responsible for the strategic design, planning, safe operation, and 100% uptime for 3 data center locations. Joining NTT DATA in 2021, John served as Associate Director of Critical Facilities Engineering, responsible for facilities and personnel management for 6 locations in 4 countries. He led teams that operated data centers and technology infrastructure to meet enterprise clients' business and financial needs.
Currently, John has embraced a new challenge with 174 Power Global, part of the Hanwha Group, as Director of Data Center Engineering. John will work with a group of industry experts to develop an entirely new business segment for 174 Power Global that will position the company to competitively break into the data center market with force. Developing pre-positioned power and utility sites, 174 Power Global produces one of the most valuable commodities of all - Time. Data center developers seeking to build new facilities often find themselves in constrained power markets, with lead times frequently exceeding five years for power availability. Now, 174PG can provide sites in attractive areas as a haven for rapid development with all power and auxiliary utility requirements already satisfied; sites that are shovel-ready for the eager data center developer.
